Hi Andrew
McCallum and Kendall Brick Walls
Further to our conversation, I am pleased to provide you with a full quotation. These are very tough cases and I understand how you have met obstacles on each one as they both require intensive research.
Our objective is to confirm each person’s identity and take them back in time, hopefully to the early 1800s or late 1700s, by using all available resources.
After prior research, we have the following observations:-
John McCallum
Nature of Brick Wall: There are many possible candidates for John, and his year of birth is not clear. His time in England may have been short.
Searches need to be undertaken under various versions of his surname and between two countries.
We know his occupation at one stage of his life.
We have found a definitive record relating to a civil court case which reveals his location at a key time. Other records are more ambiguous. The 1879 criminal record for perjury cannot yet be pinned on him. We know how that candidate perjured himself and why. Was your ancestor constantly in trouble with the law? Did he abandon his family? Was was he an incorrigible rogue or a decent, innocent man, suffering from ill health for some time before he died?
John is not with his intended wife in 1881 but we believe we have found him elsewhere and, possibly, earlier in Scotland.
Did he work in the North East coalfields or did he have a completely different occupation?
We need to obtain the necessary resources to solve this case and test the conclusions made by his tree-owners so far.
It is more difficult than the Kendall case so more time has been allocated.
Annie E Kendall
Nature of Brick Wall: Annie had Edith out of wedlock. There is a likely candidate for Edith’s father. There are several candidates for Annie. Censuses and other records which are readily available do not make it clear who Annie's parents are.
We will spend time researching these elements and obtain the necessary documents to prove Annie's origins as well as resolving and disclosing some of the information not yet obtained on Edith.
